Third Group of Semifinalists Revealed in Iceland
Icelandic broadcaster RÚV has posted the songs that will make up the third and last semifinal of Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins to decide who will represent the country in Baku. And the candidate songs are:
- Greta Salóme, Heiða og Guðrún Árný – “Aldrei sleppir mér”
- Herbert Guðmundsson – “Eilíf ást”
- Iris Lind Verudóttir – “Aldrei segja aldrei”
- Magni Ásgeirsson – “Hugarró”
- Svenni Þór – “Augun þín”
Magni might be a familiar face to some; he was last year’s Icelandic runner-up with “Ég trúi á betra líf“, and he also tried to represent the country in 2006 and 2008.
We’ve already seen songs by Greta Salóme, Heiða and Guðrún Árný earlier in this year’s National Selection; so far, Greta Salóme has already qualified to the Final in her duet with Jónsi, “Mundu eftir mér“. Heiða performed “Við Hjartarót Mína” in the First Semifinal and Guðrún Árný performed “Minningar“, but both were left out of the running. If “Aldrei sleppir mér” qualifies for the Final on February 11, this won’t be the first time that a singer has competed against themselves for the ticket to Eurovision; it happened last year, as well. Matthías Matthíasson performed twice in last year’s National Final, performing with Erla Björg Káradóttir in “Eldgos” and as a part of Sigurjón’s Friends with “Aftur Heim“, which would eventually evolve into “Coming Home“.
