Preview: Finals in Germany’s “Unser Star für Baku”

After a month’s worth of heats, semifinals, and performances by twenty hopeful singers, Germany is finally down to a final two in its search for their next Eurovision star.  In a close semifinal on Monday, Shelley Huber and Yana Gercke were voted out, leaving Roman Lob and Ornella de Santis still in the running.

Ornella or Roman...who will it be?

Much like “Unser Star für Oslo”, the show that discovered Lena Meyer-Landrut, the Finals of “Unser Star für Baku” will have two sections.  Roman and Ornella will each sing three songs, and the public will select the best song for each singer.  Afterwards, the winning songs will be pitted against each other, and we shall have our German representative!  Rumors have been floating around that songs have been submitted to Germany from Jamie Cullum and Gary Go, among others, but we’ll have to wait until Thursday to hear the ammunition in this last battle.

Roman has consistently appeared at the top of the leaderboard nearly every time a televote with his name on it has been up for grabs, while underdog Ornella has taken risks with her song selections, ranging from the Jackson Five to Rihanna to an original song in Portuguese.  For those of you who can’t vote during tomorrow’s show…

  1. good choice for Germany ! Mainstream pop music. I like it better than the two preceding songs for Germany.
