Malta has Decided: it’s Gianluca Bezzina!
Well, it was a long night in Ta’ Qali, but after sixteen performances and a dramatic vote-tally, we have a winner! Taking top points with the jury and second place with the public vote, 23-year-old Qrendi native Gianluca Bezzina will represent the island nation with his sunny pop number “Tomorrow”.
Despite his comfort on stage, Gianluca actually isn’t a full-time performer. Believe it or not, in his other life he is known as Doctor Bezzina, a resident physician at the St. Vincent de Paul Home, one of the largest facilities for the elderly on the island. He does come from a musical family, however; his sister Dorothy also participated in MESC, coming in 15th place with “Starting from the End“.
“Tomorrow”, written by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat, has a light, sunny vibe, not far removed from Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister“, The Plain White T’s “Rhythm of Love”, or Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours“. Not a bad precedent to follow…

It’s another Dr. Eurovision!
Aside from the cheap joke, I’m very happy with this result. Gianluca was my second favorite in the MESC (Third-place Davinia was my first). I love the music, style and the lyrics and the live is authentic and lovable. Also, I’m so happy he beat bland Kevin and his vanilla song! Woohoo!
Third place with 78/100. Yay! 🙂
What’s your favorite at the moment?
It’s still Switzerland. I have it with 89/100, one point beneath “OMG love it!” status. And honestly, I don’t see that changing any time soon. Hopefully Spain will surprise us tomorrow. I also have high hopes for France, Italy, and Slovenia.
Love it to bits. 9/12 for now but I hope that his vocals will be perfect in May. For now, I’d say Malta FTW! 🙂
